Best Card for Indonesia Digital Nomads (2026) — Bali & Beyond
Indonesia is too broad to answer honestly from Jakarta data alone. For digital nomads, this is a Bali-first recommendation: ether.fi Cash for card spend, Wise for receiving money, and branch/mall ATMs for IDR cash.
The recommendation
For Indonesia, ether.fi Cash is the best daily-spend card if you are already comfortable with USDC. The upside is strongest in Bali because a large share of nomad spend is cardable: accommodation platforms, coworking spaces, cafes, grocery stores, surf shops, flights, and app-based transport.
Do not use any crypto card as your only cash strategy. Indonesia still needs IDR cash for warungs, small beach vendors, motorbike rentals, and informal services. Your job is to make withdrawals infrequent, predictable, and sourced from safe bank-branded machines.
Indonesia ATM snapshot from the current dataset
| Bank | Local fee | Max / tx | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Permata | Rp 0 | Rp 2.000.000 | needs field verification · Variable by machine. Treat as a candidate to test, not a guaranteed free withdrawal. |
| BCA | Rp 30.000 | Rp 3.000.000 | needs field verification · Public guides vary between IDR 25,000 and IDR 30,000. Confirm the on-screen fee before accepting. |
| BNI | Rp 30.000 | Rp 2.000.000 | needs field verification · Stored as IDR 30,000 midpoint because public guide reports a range. Confirm on-screen before accepting. |
| Mandiri | Rp 50.000 | Rp 2.500.000 | official · Official fee. Older Bali travel guides still show Mandiri at IDR 25,000-40,000; use the 2026 access-fee notice. |
Official Mandiri fee stored as Rp 50.000. Full table: ATM fees.
Where this applies beyond Bali
Jakarta, Lombok, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya have strong bank ATM coverage, but the UnboundCard wedge is Bali first because that is where Western long-stay nomads concentrate. Do not assume a Canggu contactless pattern applies to rural Lombok or island-hopping trips. Carry cash before leaving the tourist corridors.
Best setup by residency
US resident: Schwab for cash, ether.fi Cash for card spend, Wise for receiving international transfers.
Non-US resident: ether.fi Cash for card spend, Wise/Revolut as transfer fallback, BCA/BNI/Permata candidates for cash depending on what the machine displays.
Crypto beginner: keep Wise primary until you can fund USDC confidently. Then move one month of predictable card spend to ether.fi Cash, not your emergency fund.
Indonesia rewards a two-rail setup: cashback where card works, planned cash where it does not.
